"This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin." [1Jo 1:5-7 NASB]
Years ago I surrounded myself with people who had the same beliefs as I do and wanted the same kind of things from the world as I do. Trying to force a culture to become what we want will always be ineffective so I began to try to be a little more passive about it, allowing myself to take part in activities that I previously would have had nothing to do with in an effort to start conversations with people that would lead to important change. Unfortunately, my social circle has changed and I have lost the strong support it requires to live that kind of lifestyle. I have recently had an experience that showed me how far gone this situation is. I am no longer comfortable with who I have become as a person. Unfortunately, coming back from this is going to be a long journey that will involve several strange looks and confused friends. The best I can do is remember the strength that Christ gives me which I once relied on exclusively and make sure that I am consistent in the changes I make to the best of my ability.
